Originally I signed up for a mix of off piste and on piste instruction but due to poor offpiste conditions (ice) Turner contacted me to rearrange to be part of Whistlers “the Camp” 4 day programme with my remaining 3 days as free skiing. This was the right call, despite icy off piste our instructor still found a few lesser known areas for good snow in interesting and steep (ish) terrain. The camp challenged me and the whole group was very positive and supportive. In my group there were 3 from core camps house which was great but also 4 others who had booked directly with Whistler. Our instructor Lubka was a character whom we all loved. On our last 3 days we got fresh but very heavy snow. It was great to see the trees become snow laden. We all had multiple crashes in the fresh snow. The ski Camp also hosted 2 apres events where had a drink and also had some prizes. Having the ski school priority line was great. I was the oldest staying at the core camp house (48 yrs) but had a great time getting to know my housemates. Some nights a few of us would go to town for dinner or drinks and on others cook at the house. Turner also arranged two group dinners that were fun. I did not ski with Jordan the snowboard instructor but did get to meet him. It was clear that the team enjoyed learning from him. The house our week was roughly split 60:40 snowboarders to skiers and roughly 80:20 male to female. It never felt crowded. 80:20 of couples to solo travellers. If you sign up for just one week you might want 2-3 days of freesking first because the instructors get into reasonably challenging terrain quickly (albeit this differs by skier level and the group you are paired with). I stayed at the Pangea pod hotel for one night before and had a day of skiing by myself (although a nice Australian/Canadian family I met on the chair adopted me for the day). Possibly the only downside I found of core camps is that the walk to and from the lifts was long in ski boots and took around 15-20 mins with a busy 4 lane highway to cross which was dangerous at times. There are options for ski boots lockers but they were expensive and just more hassle. An updated smart TV that can receive casting or logging into personal netflix etc would also be great. If you are skiing or boarding solo, then Core Camps is a great option. Im sure Turner will be willing to answer any questions.
