IS THIS CAMP FOR YOU?
We think so. It’s a very unique experience for select past campers (skiers and snowboarders).
This is 6 nights and 5 guided days at a rugged, authentic, remote and unspoiled ski resort.
There are two restaurants, one lodge, one pub, one day lodge and one kick-ass Mountain.
There is no fancy village and no shopping mall. We’re here for the powder.
You in? Then get your powder legs ready and step back in time to this secret mountain deep in the Canadian wilderness!

THE EXPERIENCE
It’s awesome – we lived it and loved it! The coaches and I visited in Feb 2021 (to check if it was Core Camp worthy) and it was freakin’ great! We fell in love with its old-school charm and, more importantly, the fact that we rode untracked powder runs all day, every day, even though it didn’t snow after we arrived.  We laughed and yelled down every powder run, every day. Within 24 hours, everyone at the lodge were excitedly asking us: “Are you the guys from Whistler?” We’re frothing to visit again and to share this secret place with a select few.

THE MOUNTAIN
Powder King is a remote ski resort in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The remote location of this resort means there are no crowds, no lift lines and the powder stays untracked for days. It’s only open 5 day per week (Wed to Mon) hence our particular camp dates.
There’s one chairlift and one long t-bar and that’s all we need to enjoy this place.
The runs and powder runs are mainly blue and there’s very little grooming. There are no double blacks and few cliffs. The powder runs are comparable to Niseko in terms of angle. There are plenty of nicely spaced tree runs and that’s where we’ll be doing much of our skiing/riding. There are lots of natural freestyle features to hit as well. We’ve chosen mid-February for this adventure as that’s when the powder gods seem to deliver the best for these mountains. Powder King calls itself the ‘Whisper of the North” and we intend to keep it that way. You’ll want to do the same. Shhhh…

Bring your powder skis/snowboard because this place can live up to its name.
(FOR YOUR BODY)
Please get your legs ready for skiing / riding powder and for riding the top t-bar lift. Do some riding beforehand, either in Whistler or at your home ski resort to get your winter muscles warmed up. The runs are not as long as Whistler however the powder runs can be longer since the mountain does not get tracked out.

ACCOMMODATION
The lodge is at the base of the mountain. It’s a 50m walk to the Day Lodge and the lifts. We can’t get any closer! The private rooms are double occupancy and the washrooms and hot showers are communal.
The rooms are basic, cozy, comfy and it’s easy to get a good night sleep. We stayed here last winter and enjoyed it. There are drink and snack vending machines at the front desk. There lodge is one level and has 35 rooms in total. The lodge is not a 5-star Whistler hotel. We’re here to ski and ride powder, not for spa treatments.
PRIVATE ROOM OPTION is available and limited. Add $445 for the week.

WIFI AND CELLULAR SERVICE
As of January 2022, WIFI is now available at Powder King! There is no cellular service at the resort.
The mountain does have a satellite phone for emergencies.

DAY LODGE SERVICES
The Day Lodge is the off-mountain hub and has an authentic charm and classic atmosphere.

FUN FACT
I’ve wanted to visit Powder king since I was 15 years old. I watched a segment in the 1990 movie called ‘Board with the World’ when world champion snowboarder, Craig Kelly visited Powder King. HERE is the video (go to min 6:17) that peaked my interest 30 years ago. FYI, the snow-ghost trees in the video are accessed by hiking above the resort. Very little has changed at the resort since this video came out in 1990.
